A LITTLE CHRISTMAS TREE

A LITTLE CHRISTMAS TREE

Healdsburg Tribune – Letter to the Editor

By Michael Haran

We recently moved from southern California to northern SonomaCounty. Our move was a quality of life issue. Southern California, although technically part of California has so many people, one finds oneself in a perpetual state of anxiety. We were looking for the relief that only a place like northern SonomaCounty can provide. From changing colors of the grape leaves, to checking the level of the RussianRiver when crossing WohlerBridge, to seeing a deer on a frost covered meadow, we have felt the stress caused by the hiss of the I-5, the supermarket fender-benders and the endless drone of the police and news helicopters, melt away.

Of all the sights we have seen since moving north, none has quite equaled the sight we saw from the Davis Bynum Winery. Across a RussianRiver vineyard, we saw a sight which brought tears to my wife’s eyes. Off in the distance, a tiny Christmas tree glowed in the crisp twilight. We have seen some magnificently decorated homes this holiday season in and around Healdsburg, but none could compare to the simplicity of this little Christmas tree.

We wanted to put a note in the mailbox of the family who has given us such Christmas joy, but we couldn’t tell which mailbox belonged to the family of the little tree. So, we would like to thank the little tree’s family and encourage anyone driving along Westside Road, to look for the little tree. It has been quite a welcoming sight for us to this beautiful neck of the woods.
